19TH WARD COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION EVENTS

January:

Family Skating Party

Begun as an excellent we to get the neighbors together during the winter, in recent years this event has been co-sponsored by NeighborWorks and the University of Rochester to bring people in the community together for a fun time. This event is held at the Genesee Valley Park Ice Rink on a Sunday afternoon.

Martin Luther King Luminary Evening

In celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King’s birthday at sunset neighbors throughout the 19th Ward set out luminaries in front of their home parallel to the street on their side walk or walk way leading to their front door. Neighbors are encouraged to walk around the neighborhood to enjoy the lights. Many streets are hosting hot chocolate stands or other get togethers. Luminary Kits can be purchased from Hunts Hardware on Thurston Road or other participating businesses.

May:

Citizen/Merchant of the Year Dinner
Annually the 19WCA names a fellow neighbor and a business owner who have strived to improve the quality of life of 19th Ward residents Citizen and Merchant of the year. A dinner is held to recognize the work of the others who have promoted the Urban by Choice message through other awards.

February:

Candlelight Dinners
This is an enjoyable potluck event held the last Saturday in February and a great way to know people if you are new to the 19th Ward. Neighbors can choose to host a dinner or be a guest. The host will coordinate the dinner and notify guests of time and what to bring. The guest will attend, meet new neighbors and enjoy a social evening in the 19th Ward.

June:

Square Fair

Held at Aberdeen Square Park on the first Saturday in the month; this is the largest event and fund raiser for the 19WCA of the year. The day begins with a pancake breakfast while vendors and volunteers setup for the day and a parade through the streets to the event site marks the beginning of the fear. Throughout the day neighbors gather together to enjoy live entertainment, a variety of food from local restaurants and to purchase items from guest vendors or books, plants or food from 19WCA run booths.
