January:
Family Skating Party
Begun as an excellent we
to get the neighbors together during the winter, in recent years this event has
been co-sponsored by NeighborWorks and the University of Rochester to bring
people in the community together for a fun time. This event is held at the
Genesee Valley Park Ice Rink on a Sunday afternoon.
Martin Luther King Luminary Evening
In celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King’s birthday at sunset neighbors
throughout the 19th Ward set out luminaries in front of their home parallel to
the street on their side walk or walk way leading to their front door.
Neighbors are encouraged to walk around the neighborhood to enjoy the lights.
Many streets are hosting hot chocolate stands or other get togethers. Luminary
Kits can be purchased from Hunts Hardware on Thurston Road or other
participating businesses.
